Inspiration

From other writers, I find inspiration
and within my family. My sister, Anna, who is an artist, is my best friend and my closest supporter. She is an example of
strength,
perseverance
and conviction.

My favorite writers of the past are James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Maya Angelou, Tennessee Williams and Lorraine Hansberry. My favorite writers of the present are Terri McMillan, John Grisham, Mary Higgins Clark and Dean Koontz.

Influences

And I am deeply influenced by songwriters. Some of my favorite songwriters are Scott Stapp, Brett Hestla, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Harry Connick, Jr., Chris Cornell, Toby Keith and John Mayer. The lyrics written by Scott Stapp for his new single "Relearn Love" have captivated my soul, "On a dark and lonely highway, I need the Son to raise my head, I come before you I am naked, the man I am now must be shed... I've weathered storms and I am broken, my beaten heart is in your hands, what I really need is shelter and a chance to relearn love..." More about Scott can be found here: SCOTT STAPP

And one of my all time favorite lyrics are written by Brett Hestla which come from the song "Kiss My Disease" from the 1999 CD Sign Of A Vacant Soul . "Just a man with a cause, no rewards and no applause, if there was a call, he did not hear it, tiny heroes fight in big battles, mind of stone breaks and rattles, the only think I need, kiss my disease and make it all better, clean me when I bleed, justify me, make words of my scattered letters..." Hello and welcome to my site! Writing is my heart and soul and deepest passion. I am an emerging poet and author who has been writing poetry and short fiction for nearly two decades. Over the last decade I have had some publishing successes with poetry anthologies. But I became more serious about pursuing writing as a career within this last few years. My work has been published in Events Quarterly, GoodTaste International, All Things Girl, The Persistent Mirage and Poetic Monthly.

Presently, I am  working on a collection of my poetry and short stories. Also I am working on a collection of poetic short forms tentatively entitled  " Sedoka Sunrise." The following two poems "Eyes of sorrow" and " Coming of Dusk" will be part of that collection.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you will come again and that you enjoyed my work.

EYES OF SORROW

eyes of sorrow stare
through broken glass window,
nothing to ease hunger pangs

TALISMAN

Phantom shadow rises
over sultry city.
Ominous winds
blow cold.

Crooked branches hang
from rotten trees.
Scattered leaves
blow in the breeze.

Murky silhouette
cascades off dense clouds.
Misty rains descend, heavily,
from ebony sky.

In the near distance,
hum of veiled voices,
muffle
piercing scream's
echo.

Vipers slither in the grass.
Steel-gray eyes
search black night
for any avenue of escape.

Edge of dawn soon will rise.
Haunted soul clutches talisman,
crossing muddy waters
over to the other side,
praying life does not end
before morning sunrise.
